Market News & Headlines >> Corn Planting Lags Slightly

USDA pegged U.S. corn planting progress at 3% complete as of Sunday, up one percentage point from a week earlier and below the five-year average pace of 5% as wet weather continued to limit fieldwork in southern growing areas last week.

Looking at the four major growing states, USDA reported no planting progress in the top U.S. corn state of Iowa, the No. 2 producing state of Illinois, Nebraska or Minnesota. On average over the previous five years, planting was 2% complete in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota, and 4% complete in Illinois.

USDA pegged Kansas planting progress at 6%, 1 point ahead of last year, but 8 points behind the five-year average and pegged Missouri progress at 6%, ahead of last year’s 4%, but behind the average pace of 15%.
