Friday’s monthly Cattle-on-Feed report is expected to show that both feedlot placements and feedlot marketings were down more than 5% from a year earlier in July amid tightening U.S. cattle supplies.

Trade estimates of July feedlot placements average 94.5% of a year earlier in a range from 90.4%-96.5%. At the average of estimates, July placements would total 1.667 million head, down 97,000 from a year earlier.

Pre-report estimates of July feedlot marketings average 94.8% of a year earlier in a range from 90.4%-96.5%. At the average of trade expectations, July marketings would total 1.729 million head, down 95,000 from a year earlier.

Pre-report expectations for the Aug. 1 U.S. feedlot inventory average 98.4% of a year earlier in a range from 98.0%-99.1%. At the average of trade estimates, the Aug. 1 feedlot inventory would total 11.044 million head, down 245,000 from a year earlier.
