The grain trade expects Friday’s USDA Crop Acreage report to show only small changes in corn and soybean planted acreage compared with the March 31 Prospective Plantings report.

Pre-report trade estimates of U.S. corn plantings average 91.853 million acres in a range from 91.000-93.000 million compared with March planting intentions of 91.996 million acres and last year’s final plantings of 88.579 million.

For soybean plantings, pre-report trade estimates average 87.673 million acres in a range from 87.000-88.500 million compared with March planting intentions of 87.505 million acres and last year’s final plantings of 87.450 million acres.

Pre-report expectations for U.S. all-wheat acreage average 49.656 million acres in arrange from 48.600-50.200 million compared with March planting intentions of 49.855 million acres and last year’s final plantings of 45.738 million.

Expectations for winter wheat seedings average 37.312 million acres in a range from 36.700-37.800 million acres compared with USDA’s March estimate of 37.505 million. Pre-report expectations for other spring wheat seedings average 10.508 million acres compared with March planting intentions of 10.570 million and last year’s final seedings of 10.853 million acres.

On average, USDA is expected to peg U.S. cotton seedings for 2023 at 11.119 million acres, with expectations ranging from 10.500-12.000 million acres compared with March planting intentions of 11.256 million acres and last year’s final plantings of 13.763 million.
