Corn
U.S. corn condition was unchanged on the week at 57% good-to-excellent, compared to 69% last year and the 5-year average of 60%. State-level changes were limited, though Iowa slipped 1 point, Minnesota fell 2 points, and South Dakota and Wisconsin each declined 3 points, while Nebraska improved 3 points and Colorado jumped 11 points. Corn dented reached 62%, up from 45% last week and ahead of both last year’s 56% and the 5-year average of 56%, while corn mature increased to 13% from 6% a week ago, slightly ahead of the 5-year average of 12%. Looking ahead, the 7-day precipitation forecast calls for generally light rainfall across much of the central Corn Belt, with heavier totals concentrated across portions of the northern and eastern Midwest.
Soybeans
U.S. soybean condition fell 2 points on the week to 58% good-to-excellent, compared to 65% last year and the 5-year average of 59%. The largest weekly declines were reported in Kentucky (-9), Minnesota (-8), Louisiana (-7), and Kansas (-6), while North Dakota (+3), Michigan (+3), Indiana (+2), and Missouri (+2) posted improvements. Soybean development remained ahead of average, with 95% setting pods and 13% dropping leaves.
Wheat
USDA no longer reporting spring wheat condition ratings this week as harvest reached 77% nationally, ahead of last year’s 69% and the 5-year average of 68%.
Cotton
U.S. cotton condition improved 2 points on the week to 39% good-to-excellent, compared to 51% last year and the 5-year average of 44%. The largest improvements were reported in South Carolina (+12), Mississippi (+10), Tennessee (+4), and Texas (+3), while Arizona fell 12 points and North Carolina dropped 7 points from the previous week. Cotton development remains near historical pace, with 89% setting bolls compared to the 5-year average of 91%, while 29% of bolls are open, matching the 5-year average and slightly ahead of last year’s 27%.
Rice
U.S. rice condition improved 3 points on the week to 71% good-to-excellent, compared to 77% last year and the 5-year average of 74%. Arkansas and Missouri each improved 4 points from the previous week, while Mississippi slipped 1 point and California, Louisiana, and Texas were unchanged. Rice harvest reached 38%, up from 27% last week and ahead of both last year’s 32% and the 5-year average of 27%.
